The Terror That Flaps in the Night

Have you heard of this Batman fellow?     Some of you might know that Christopher Nolan has been directing a little art house trilogy about this masked man of mystery, but what most people don’t realize is that Batman is not a new character created for his yet unfinished opus, but in fact has been around for over 70 years in one form or another.  Believe it or not, this guy started out in comic books! I know Who’da thunk it? I sure didn’t, but research pays off. He’s also been in a surprising number of Television shows, both…

A Lizard In a Lab Coat

A Lizard In a Lab Coat

I used to read a considerable amount of comics. Now that I actually pay bills, that number has gone down considerably. However, I still get excited for comic book adaptations. As long as the characters have the feel of the comic that I fell in love with, I’m okay. The Japanese Cutey Huney is still my favorite comic book movie to date- it was kitsch, cute, over the top and it didn’t take itself too seriously. I loved it and it’s still fun to watch years later. Iron Man had a similar feel for me. The casting on Stark was…

Fantasizing about the little people living in the walls. Arrietty

So I saw the US version of Arrietty this weekend; a Studio Ghibli, Inc production. As Studio Ghibli films go, this one did not disappoint. Had a great story and definitely kept me entertained through and through. Even left me with a bit of half closure; just enough for me to imagine my own future for the main characters. However its not the film that I want to write about here. I kinda suck at reviewing and I think anything more that I say about it would just be a disservice to the film. I will say though, that if like…

Admittedly, ‘First Class’ Wasn’t That Bad

Admittedly, ‘First Class’ Wasn’t That Bad

Anytime a geek property gets the movie treatment, we can’t help but worry how Hollywood is going to change it. It can either go one of two ways. Firstly, I was really hesitant about the Star trek reboot- but darnit it really was quite good.  It was fun, moved fast and kept you interested. Hell, it even gave Spock a love interest. That way is the right way. When someone who already admires the franchise and understands how much it means to people and takes the helm and gives you something awesome worth adding to the continuity. Then there is…

You Know, For Kids.

You Know, For Kids.

First of all I’d like to apologize to my leagues of reader for my absence. I have no excuse, except for the lack of a good topic, but now I have two, so I’m gonna get this one done, and hopefully if apathy doesn’t take me I’ll get a second one out within the week. For now though, let’s talk about kids movies. This weekend I was running around, and stopped off in a drug store to buy some sundries and somehow got sucked into a conversation. Worker:  I got Megamind. I’m gonna watch that shit tonight! Cashier:  I don’t…

Celebrities Without Pants

One of the cool things about living in New York is that you never know who you will run into in the street. Sure it could be your dreaded ex-boyfriend, but luckily sometimes it’s a celebrity. A few weeks ago, i walked right past Keanu Reeves as he was filming by my job. The man is gorgeous I’m convinced people should just pay him to stand around and look handsome. Then there is also the infamous time when Denis Leary heard me ranting on my phone and called me a ‘crazy bitch’- he was right I was having an awful…

Some People!

Some People!

A little update from yesterday’s entry. I asked two friends who really liked Let the Right One In if they had seen Let Me In. Both said that they hadn’t and didn’t want to, basically because they said the original was so great that they didn’t see the point. This bothers me, because I feel like it seems like they’re intentionally robbing themselves of a relatively enjoyable experience because they think it will somehow sully something they hold in high regard, yet won’t even give it the chance. I mean it’s possible they’ll like the English version more, which is…

Don’t Call it a Come Back

I know, I know it’s been forever. I apologize, and I’d like to make excuses, but I won’t. But hey, I’m here now and I want to make it up to you, so today, I’m going to talk about something everyone seems to hate. Movie Remakes. over the past oh let’s say decade, there has been a big influx of movies that have come out that are remakes of older, some would argue, better movies. People have been heard saying that Hollywood is out of ideas, or that this is just laziness and that they’re all out to just make…
